Background

The US Solar Value platform is the vision of three appraisal industry leaders and the synergy of three successful practices in the appraisal of Green properties and renewable resource assets.

Bruce Wiley, Theddi Chappell and James Finlay - founded US Solar Value in 2017 as they saw increasing demand and need for expertise in renewable energy valuation. The practice has grown to offer geographic coverage throughout the United States and its territories.

US Solar Value can provide high capacity for portfolio assignments with its resources of experienced appraisers and the tools and databases developed from years of experience with solar, storage, and wind farm appraisals.

Founding Partners

BRUCE F. WILEY. MAI

President and Co-founder

Co-Founder of US Solar Value and CEO of Akerson & Wiley, Wellesley, MA, has appraised 250+ solar and wind farms totaling well over 700+ megawatts of nameplate capacity. With over 40 years of commercial real estate appraisal experience, he has been hired to do appraisals by major banks, law firms, tax equity and other investors.

After many years in Denver, he was recruited to Boston in 1990 as Chief Appraiser for the workout of the Bank of New England. He is a Life Member of the Appraisal Institute and has been active in national and international professional organizations.

THEDDI CHAPPELL

Co-Founder

Co-Founder of US Solar Value and CEO of Sustainable Values, Inc., Park City, UT, brings a wealth of experience and credentials to US Solar Value.

Along with extensive solar and renewable energy knowledge, she has pioneered the analysis of green and sustainable features in the appraisal of commercial real estate. She holds the LEED AP credential from the U.S. Green Building Council.

Her clients include the U.S. Department of Energy, the EPA, Connecticut Green Bank and other public and private organizations. In addition, she developed a course for DOE titled Energy Matters!

JAMES FINLAY

Co-Founder & Advisory Counsel

Managing Partner of Soundview Risk Advisors in Venice, CA, has in-depth expertise in thevaluation of solar PV and distributed energy resources. His appraisals and appraisal reviews of solar installations are used for collateral valuation by major financial institutions.

He serves as an advisor to the Clean Energy Finance Forum at the Yale Center for Business and the Environment, the CA Sustainability Alliance, the Microgrid Institute and The Appraisal Foundation.

Mr. Finlay was previously Vice President and Senior Commercial Real Estate Appraisal Manager for Wells Fargo Bank in Los Angeles. He served as Wells Fargo’s property valuation expert for solar PV and distributed energy resources.

James has entered into phased retirement. He currently provides counsel and referrals to USSV.

Appraisers & Operations

ANDREA WILEY

Director of Operations

Andrea manages project workflow, client relations, and oversees all financial needs of the company. Additionally, Andrea maintains the USSV database of appraised renewable assets for the purpose of sales comparison and reporting. Andrea has completed coursework in Energy Economics from MIT and is currently working toward becoming an Accredited Member (AM) of the American Society of Appraisers (ASA) with a focus on Machinery and Technical Specialties (expected completion: 2024). Andrea is an active member of the Northeast Energy Commerce Association (NECA) and the Women’s Energy Network (WEN) as she works to stay at the forefront of important topics in renewable energy.

ANDREW SCHROEDER

Senior Appraiser

Andrew has over 15 years of commercial real estate valuation experience across a diverse background of property types.  He has also taken courses focusing on sustainability and renewable energy from the US Green Building Council and the Appraisal Institute.  Since joining US Solar Value, he has done extensive research on renewable energy markets, government incentive programs, and the analysis of forward energy pricing curves that have all been utilized in his appraisal work.

MICHAEL RAMOS

Senior Appraiser

Michael brings a diverse finance and accounting background and over 10 years of commercial real estate valuation experience to the US Solar Value team. His work has included the appraisal of affordable housing communities participating in the Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program and the Freddie Mac Green Advantage program. Michael has participated in various courses and events focused on sustainability and renewable energy offered by the US Green Building Council and Urban Land Institute and continues to expand his knowledge in solar valuation through courses offered by the Appraisal Institute and Novogradac, among other providers.
